Tues 6th March

Teotihuacan pyramides today! Got there late afternoon when it was hot but quiet.
The Avenue of The Dead links the pyramids of the sun and moon. It's an epic site.

Hopefully bound for Oaxaca tomorrow. The pollution in Mexico City is starting to take its toll.

Fri 2nd Mar

Took the metro and then the light railway to the South of Districto Federal today and spent some time floating on the canals of Xochimilco. Another hot blue sky day. We were accosted by floating river shops and forced to buy cold bottles of Corona beer!

Thur 1st Feb

Anthropology Museum today. Thousands of years of Central American history in one afternoon.

A surprise find at the Anthropology museum. The Xochipilli statue! made my day.

Wed 29th Feb

Visited the Frida Kahlo's sites today.

28th Feb 2012

After another mammoth sleep we are finally out of hibernation and feeling human. Mexico city is amazing.

We took our first foray into the Zocalo tonight, well...last night!

Badly jet lagged and spaced out at 7000ft above sea level we were delighted to sample street Tacos and start ticking off Jo and Paul's list of city hot spots. We checked out Bar Opera for a Marguerita and Cafe Popular which could become a firm favourite over the next week, the coffee is served chino style, which was a revelation.

Its 6am Mexico time, I can't sleep a wink so i'm reading about the city online and dreaming of more Popular coffee!

We are staying at the Emporio hotel on the Reforma but we have booked Hotel Isabel in the Zocalo for the next 5 nights. There's enough to see in Mexico city to stay a month ;  )

27th Feb 2012

It's been a long journey from Sydney, a 12 hour flight, 12 hours in Manhatten Beach area LA and a midnight 3 hr flight to Mexico. We we're falling asleep standing up towards the end.

Almost 2 days without sleep! Checked in and passed out for 8 hrs. It will take a few days to fix our body clocks. Looking forward to seeing the city!

 Sunday 26th feb 2012

A long flight from Sydney to LA X and a full day to kill before flying onto Mexico City. We went to Manhattan beach for the day. An amazing surf spot with beatiful beaches and lots of nice coffeeshops and bars.

We plan to come back after Central America and spend 2 nights here before starting the final journey North to San Francisco.

Sat 18th Feb

Finally made it to Aus to visit the rels after years of talking about it. Had a great stay with family in French's Forest area before a night in the city centre and the final night in Glebe Village area.

Amazing city with some beautiful beach areas. Glebe Village was a lucky strike for the final night, v bohemian little place with great views of the city skyline.

Decided to tweak the itinerary a little and move on to Mexico early as we were super keen to get to the ancient Mayan and Aztec sites of Central America!

Tuesday 14th Feb

Moved northwards 500 metres to Tonsai beach. An amazing climbers paradise! A very very chilled out place. A real escape from reality here but if you're not a climber a night would be enough. Only accessible by boat.

Stayed in a jungle bungalow, the East and West sides of the peninsula were connected by jungle walks.

Had a great day out in a canoe exploring other local islands and swimming in turquoise water.

That's the Asian leg of our trip almost over! It's been incredible and seems like forever since Riccardo dropped us off at Edinburgh airport at the start of November!

Looking forward to catching up with family in Sydney :  )

A river boat, a bus, a taxi and two flights and we are Australia bound!

Monday 13th Feb

Took a scenic 2 hr ferry south to Krabi. Amazing limestone cliffs and turquoise waters!

Spent the first night in Railay.

Sunday 12th February

Spent one night in Phuket waiting for the ferry on Monday.

Thur 9th Feb

Arrived in Chiang Mai , North Thailand yesterday after a 1 hour flight, what a luxury, we can't face any more buses.

Hired a moped today and went trekking, visited some jungle caves and some waterfalls, it was great to get away just the two of us, didn't see one other trekker.

I'm off to Crazy Horse climbing crag tommorow for a days climbing while Angela relaxes in Chiang Mai.

Mon 6th Feb

Visited the Banyan Tree's 61st floor Vertigo roof bar. Amazing.

Sat 4th Feb

Had an eventful border crossing out of Cambodia. Our bus company dumped us before the border and never came back after we cleared immigration. We sat with about 14 other passengers and waited until we lost patience then hitched a lift to a bus station a few miles away to get another bus.

Didn't get into Bangkok till midnight, a full 12 hours, but staying near Khao San road has its benefits and we had no prob finding dinner at 12.30am on backpacker street.

Spent our first day organising our next stops. We are now bound for Chiang Mai then Krabi before departing Asia for Australia.

Bangkok was v hot today.

A cold beer half way through the journey : buses, immigration queues, hitched lifts, more buses and taxis

Khao San Road "backpacker street" in full gear

3rd Feb 2012

Our final day in Angkor touring temples. That's it for Cambodia, it's been amazing. Tomorrow we cross the border into Thailand and head to Bangkok.

2nd Feb 2012

Arrived in Siem Reap yesterday. The main temples of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and Ta Phrom are made for bicycle touring which is what we did today. Angkor Wat is the grandest of them all but we thought Ta Phrom has the edge with its ancient trees growing through the sandstone.

The hottest day of our whole trip so far, it was unbelievably sticky.

Many of the other temples are v far away so tomorrow we will go by tuk tuk.

Off into Siem Reap tonight to meet some friends we met in Vietnam.
